i looked a simple app called dimmer.exe but whats needed is a filter at the video driver level i think..

the brightness of the LCDs are intense and cause eyestrain.

i drop the driver levels and monitor bright settings helps alot but then all the photos and videos are way too dark.

i have set backround desktop color to gray instead of white..again very helpful
but does not work on white web pages and some other stuff.

i looked into changing browser background color but that is irrelevant most of the time
since the htmls of each page write the background color.

the video driver controls needs a passive filter rule set or something that lets you set the proper levels for those then allows dimming for the rest of the display.

or perhaps just a separate control for the brights.
like laundry i guess.. maybe Proctor&Gamble should write the app.

should i be in the nvidia forum for this or has someone created a solution i have not found yet?

If your whites are too bright, and dark colors are too dark, then you need to lower the contrast setting on the monitor.

yeah seems ok but i think what i'm really wanting is the seperate controls
for the video and jpgs OR separate controls of the mass white (or bright) areas.
if i had that then my desktop would have harmony.

i'm frankly surprised my search has not really found many people asking for that.
perhaps they have not analysed the problem and many just make do with the bright
levels so their videos and pics look good and maybe they just write off the eyestrain
or dont use their pc long hours etc.

its actually the same with my tv..it lights up the room and my front yard but if i lower the levels then the non daylight/bright scenes are too dark.
if i drop the bright scenes to a cool level there not enough range of contrast control available to tweak the images to look good.

since the white backlight is an ingredient of all of the colors is what leads to the conlusion that there needs to be a seperate handling of the pure whites
and bright yellows etc.
the images need the brights but the backrounds etc need to be cooled off.
