hey my friend gave me this LCD monitor because its really dark and hurts to look at it. i tried adjusting the brightness/contrast with it but no luck. i was told it might be a backlight problem or the backlight was broken or something like that. do you think it would be cheaper to get it fixed at a repair shop or to just buy a new one?

Hmm, I've seen LCD's where the backlight has burned out. They are nearly impossible to read, because no light is shining through them. You can still make it out somewhat though because the light from outside is reflecting off the inside. I never heard of one just getting really dim though. Maybe if there are two lamps in the back, and only one has burned out. Does one side of the display look brighter than the other?

Backlights are just another lightbulb. They have a finite life and eventually, all burn out. The fix is to replace the backlight.
