Hi there

I?m looking to purchase a new PC very soon probably in 1 month time.

I want to purchase a LCD monitor because I think it will help with my eye strain problem caused by computer overuse.

Does 16ms ghost at all in games such as Doom 3, Far Cry, Battlefield, NFS underground, and strategy games?

These are the following LCD's I am planning to get:

http://www.viewsonic.com.au/pr...roductspecs.php?id=191

What are your thoughts about these LCD's?
Note, CMV brand is cheapest in New Zealand.

Can someone with a 17" LCD monitor who games please confirm whether playing at a higher or lower resolution (preferably 1024x768 in FPS games) other then the native 1280x1024 will cause the display to be worse or it?s the same crisp display as native? Because if I have to play at 1280x1024 to avoid blurriness then Ill have to get a more powerful video card. Would switching to a 15" LCD with a native resolution of 1024x768 be a solution to this problem?

Thanks

Siamac

You're trying to avoid eyestrain and you're getting a monitor that small? Oo The best way I've found is to get as big as possible, keep it far away from you (eyes are more relaxed looking far away than close up), and keep the text large (just because you can read small, doesn't mean you have to use that small)...

What is your budget for a new LCD monitor....if you have some play room i would recommend a Dell 2001 FP.......I have this monitor and it is real sweet ...also has some of the best reviews out for gaming.

Why not contribute some information or at least some personal experience instead of just being a jerk? Or are you just trolling?

The distance portion was told to me by my eye doctor, btw (who said to take occasional breaks and look out a window/etc not close in) when I complained about my eyes once, but here is a detailed source via google:

There is an elastic ring of ligaments, called the "zonula," around the lens of the eye. In the resting state of the eye, this ring exerts an outward tension on the equator of the lens. This tends to flatten the lens, thus reducing its refractive power and placing the eye in a condition for viewing distance objects. When close objects are to be brought into focus, the refractive power of the lens must be increased. The ciliary muscle then contracts and, in effect, reduces the tension that the zonula exerts on the lens. As a result, the lens becomes more spherical and has greater refractive power. This process is called "accommodation." To maintain focus on a near object, the ciliary muscle exerts a continuous contracting force.
Re CRT vs. LCD, the majority of people are not bothered by CRT flicker and sacrificing a big screen for no reason is just going to make it worse on his eyes. I've had a desktop replacement laptop with a 15" screen for ~5 years, but I would never even consider using it over my 21" CRTs when I didn't have to. I suppose there may be some comfort in blindly following trends like you seem to be advocating, though. Thinking for yourself is difficult. ;p

Can someone please answer my questions about the response time and about the resolution for gaming using a 17" LCD monitor? Is 16ms excellent for gaming or do I need to go down to 14ms/12ms in those games I listed? I prefer to get an LCD as I know CRT gives me eye strain. Besides, carrying a large CRT to a LAN for me is a con. Tough decision :)
