Just back from checking out clearance at BestBuy and they had the LG Securedisc Internal Super-Multi for $11.99 at my local store (which isn't generally known for having cheap clearance items)

SKU 8478667
GSA-H55NI
20X Securdisk Internal Super-Multi

A quick search of BB site only turns up the Lightscribe version of this burner for $80 (the NI does not have Lightscribe)

Also, this is IDE drive but I'm dropping it in an external case anyway.

I'm currently using two of these drives in my systems, they work fine for me. The "SecureDisc" stuff is pretty useless though. It allows copy-protection of PDF files only, and you have to use their special SecureDisc PDF reader program, not the regular Adobe reader.

Good price though, I paid $35 + tax apeice on BF.

Just today, I discovered a solution to the riplock problem. Read http://club.cdfreaks.com/f91/m...lg-dvd-writers-133858/ . My post should explain the steps needed. You need the LG firmare download 1.05, the MCSE program from that thread, and 7-zip. You use 7-zip to extract the bundled .bin file from the firmware .exe updater file, and then you modify both the firmware .exe (for stand alone installer), and then modify the .bin for read speed increase, and then you flash using the modified .exe and .bin. It works great! Now instead of average read verify speeds of 4x, I get 12x... max read speed 16x instead of 6.2x.

Hard to find them, they're pretty old and have been deleted from the best buy system for several months (I think September was when they were deleted).
