Lazer tag for kids?

Anyone familiar with any home lazer tag systems?

Thinking about getting a set for my niece and nephew for Christmas and don't know much about them.

Looking at 2 sets on Amazon:

Wowwee Lazer Tag - http://www.amazon.com/Wowwee-Special...ords=laser+tag

The Wowwee ones look cooler and seem to use less batteries, but from what I can tell, don't shoot as far. Also don't know how long the batteries last. A bit more expensive but you get 3 guns and targets. Uses more batteries if you also use the targets.

The Nerf ones got a lot of reviews, seem to be durable, and batteries last a long time, but aren't as cool and use more batteries. Only 2 guns, no targets.
 
Just get them used to frozen paintballs at their chests and necks from 20 feet away. Save yourself a lot of talk later when they actually get hurt.

I got laser tag things for my boys when they were younger. Complete waste of money - used about 3 times, then set on a shelf.
 
Lazer tag is lame. The home systems have too few sensors which are easily covered to cheat (or even just inadvertently cover). Also it is stupidly hard to aim those things.

Just get them some nerf dart weapons. Fairly cheap, awesome and fun for all ages.

To each their own. My dad and I played laser tag for years when I was a kid, weather permitting. It's especially awesome at night if you have a decent sized yard with woods.

So long as you buy a few hundred replacement darts and don't mind 10 minutes of cleanup for every 2 minutes of awesome.

Kids do the cleanup, if they lose the darts, they don't play. When I was a kid, my buddy had a Mattel M60 that held a hundred red plastic bullets in the ammo belt. On full automatic, it burned through the belt in 3 1/2 seconds. We'd spend twenty minutes picking them all up and doing it all over again. :biggrin:
