I was looking through the display settings advanced properties and found out that with the version of nvidia drivers I have, I can rotate the computer screen 90, 180, and 270 degrees. So I wanted to see if rotating the screen 90 degrees and then turning the monitor on its side is any better than the default "horizontal" config.
But first I just wanted to ask you guys if its safe to put a monitor on its side. It's a viewsonic a70, though I doubt that the brand would change whether or not its safe.

I'm thinkin it would be safe, because a while back I saw this monitor that was made to rotate 90 on a swivel thingy.

You could always try emailing viewsonic and asking them. I really don't think that it will be any better picture because why would they make it that way?

On old monitors it made the colours look funny because the electron guns wern't aligning properly any more. Havent tried with a modern monitor. LCD's are fine.

I wasn't looking to get a better picture, I just thought it might be more productive that way, I just wanted to try it out, since most webpages and a lot of other non-gaming stuff would prolly look better if the screen was taller than wide. just think about this page at a resolution of 1024X768.

Most likely it is NOT safe. If you look on the top of your monitor you will see several vent holes, if you turn your monitor sideways these vent holes will no longer be on the top. Heat will get trapped at the top of the monitor and it is possible for your monitor to overheat. However if you do have sufficient air flow into and out of the monitor it should be ok to put a modern monitor (can display 1280 reso and atleast 75Hz refresh) on its side. I stuck a 19 inch on its side for that reason to have webpages displayed like a whole page length it worked ok until i smelled somethin funny...Now there is a new vent hole on the pc on its side with a 42mm fan on it.

oh yeah, I didn't even think about the heat. I dont feel like putting holes into the monitor just yet, so I guess I'll just put this idea off for now, that for the replies
