Lay off my ASUS P3C-2000

Look here, I know the P3C-2000 has a bad rap because of the MTH issue. I must be totally honest though and say that since I built my machine last March with this board and a 733EB processor with 256MB of 133 SDRAM, I have had zero problems. The whole system screams along nicely and with the Diamond Viper V770 Ultra graphics card I can run everything from Quake III to Serious Sam with ease. My question is this. I want to upgrade the processor. A 933EB is the likely choice but will the board handle a 1GHz CPU? Please don't flame this board because of the occasionally reported problems.
P.S. ASUS support is most weak, they don't answer any of the above questions after repeated posts. 😕

Good luck to you then.

ASUS have discontinued production of the P3C-2000 as well as discontinued product support. No new BIOSes, no tech support questions answered.

The performance difference between the 733 and a 1GHz is not worth spending the money on at the moment. The latest BIOS, version 1021, does not support the 1GHz processor, nor any of the cC0 stepping CPUs.

If anything, you will get far more of a performance jump if you take your board back and exchange it for the CUSL2 instead. You won't have the MTH slowing the system down, and you get continuous support as well as a large user base with lots of experience.

Thank you for your feedback. I am still reluctant (or too lazy) to go through all the hassle of changing the motherboard. It wasn't easy getting all the hardware and software tweaked to the very satisfactory point I am at now. If I am not having any problems at all, do you still really think I should get rid of the board? Do you think it wise to upgrade the CPU to 933? I can get one very reasonable and I know the board will handle that. My funds are a bit limited and the vendor will only give me about 75% of my purchase price back towards a new board (the full return period expired before I found out about the MTH issue) Thanks again.
