Lawton Oklahoma: Fort Sill - anyone know anything about this place?

Howdy ATOT. Does anyone here have family or friends stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK? Has anyone here actually been stationed there in their tour of duty? What did you think of your time there? How did you feel about the environment/atmosphere as a whole? How did you feel about the people there in general? Transportation (e.g. was getting around a problem like it is in big cities)?
 
my brother lives about 30 miles west of lawton in Duncan OK
we are going to visit him in a couple weeks

it is a nice wide open rural area, although lawton itself is decent size. duncan is a town of about 25,000 and lawton is bigger. i think they sometimes go to lawton to shop and stuff.

you'll probably miss the mountains and feel kind of exposed at first, but the big midwest sky can be just as beautiful as the mountains in their own way
 
Yeah, I've never been out of a mountain-filled environment. I've *always* seen mountains on the horizon. It's probably gonna freak me the fvck out!
 
I live in Oklahoma, but not in Lawton. My wife's grandfather was stationed there a long time ago and I have only been to Lawton a few times. Lawton is not a huge city. You shouldn't have any issues with getting around at all as far as transportation. In fact, it might be a little to far away from thel arger cities for your liking. It is atleast a good hour drive to large mall of any sort.

I have heard that most people find the people in Oklahoma to be pretty friendly. You shouldn't have any trouble, then again, there can be a**holes anywhere. I hope you like it. 🙂

All the information I can find hints that Lawton was built around Fort Sill simply because it was there...

My grandparents live in Lawton. Podunk is correct. Just like where I live, Copperas Cove Texas (next to Fort Hood).
