Laws of the Dumb: Hope you aren't a parent in AZ

Due to some horrifically bad legislation and judging changing a diaper or bathing your child is now a sex crime.

The Arizona Supreme Court issued a stunning and horrifying decision on Tuesday, interpreting a state law to criminalize any contact between an adult and a child’s genitals. According to the court, the law’s sweep encompasses wholly innocent conduct, such as changing a diaper or bathing a baby. As the stinging dissent notes, “parents and other caregivers” in the state are now considered to be “child molesters or sex abusers under Arizona law.” Those convicted under the statute may be imprisoned for five years.

Of course prosecution relies on the prosecutors who won't want to go after your average parent. I'm also sure they will never abuse this law in an effort force to plea bargains or improve their conviction records.

A law like this can be and probably will be abused for personal or political gain if the language isn't more clearly defined.

Red state. Mostly likely will be carried by Trump in November. Enough said.

Maybe not? As of last week it appears to be pretty much a tie.

"Arizona is a too-close-to-call presidential battleground between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, according to a new statewide Arizona Republic/Morrison/Cronkite News poll.

The live telephone survey found Clinton, the former secretary of State, leading Trump, the celebrity billionaire, 35.1 percent to 33.5 percent among likely voters in the traditional red state, well within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

Third-party candidates captured another 8 percent or so: Libertarian Gary Johnson was supported by 6.9 percent; Green Party nominee Jill Stein by 1.5 percent.

Another 22.9 percent haven't decided yet."

Plus, this year will likely see the largest hispanic voter turnout in decades; needless to say, they're not voting for Donnie.

In all other states with similar laws the law states contact has to be done for a sexual reason to be prosecuted. Which means they have to prove your guilt.

Here you'd have to prove contact wasn't sexual in effect assuming your guilty from the start. There's no way that would pass
constitutional muster.

How the legislature and the majority of judges got this wrong is mind boggling.

WRT the bolded, that's exactly the standard that some progressives are in favor of under different circumstances, such as if you're a rich corporation. And it did pass via court ruling in blue state Wisconsin, the legislature attempting to undo it has some ATPN people up in arms.

from your own link.

Are you still humming?

Retarded all the way around. But then, I don't have too much trust in the justice system to begin with.

I don't buy for a minute that this represents the views of the electorate in Arizona. (Does anyone really believe the people of AZ want to be harassed by courts for changing/bathing their children? If you believe so, you're dumb as a fence post.) It's a bunch of out of touch legislators and judges, doing what they want, the will of the people be damned. That attitude is common with legislators and R vs. D has little to do with it.
