Definitely gas. I used to have one of those electric ones and it was a total pain in the ass. I can't count the number of times I had to patch the cord because I accidentally ran over it. For cheap mowers go to Walmart and get a Murray. They have a Briggs and Stratton motor, 2 year warranty, and you can get one that mulches and bags for less than $200......

If you are bit over wieght like me,a push mower will solve two problems at once. You get healthy exercise, and no one else suffers with the air a noise polution.;)

how big is your lot?
how about a riding lawn mower. i hear that they are fun :)
if not, gas and self-propelled definitely.

<< I'd recommend a Honda self-propelled. My dad's had one for 9 years that he's used to cut about an acre. Absolutely no problems----they are relatively expensive though. >>

and you can rice it up too :)
slap on a couple of Type-R stickers, a body kit, and that should give it a nice hp boost.

I have a scotts gas lawnmower that I use to mow my 1 acre of grass every weekend! It's hard, but my calfs could feed a large family because of it :)
