Lawn Mower suggestions?

The past two lawn mowers i have had are electric. They work fine, but the hassle of plugging it in the cable not stretching enough has gotten to me...

I don't have a huge lawn, so I don't need anything fancy. Something with a bag and relatively cheap would do. I have looked at Home Depot, Sears, Lowes, etc.

Are there any brands that I should avoid or that I should look into?

Thanks

I purchased a Troy Built at Lowes when I bought my home 3 years ago. Works great and the only issue I've ever had is the drive belt for the self-propelled feature broke. New belt cost a couple of bucks.

You'll be looking at the MTD (Troy Bilt, Cub Cadet, Yard Machines, etc) products if you want something inexpensive. Out of the mowers at Home Depot, stay away from Yard Machines. Spend the extra few bucks and step up to at least the Cub Cadet if you're getting something from there. If you're OK with spending more money, look into the Toro line.

i personally like non-self propelled mowers, easier to work with in tight places and around trees. you can usually find them about $100 cheaper then their propelled counterparts. I have a cheap Yardman, has been going great for me with almost no maintance for about 3 years.

I was actually looking at the line of toros. Maybe I should have specified. I'm will to spend up to $400. What about Craftmens from Sears? I know it's their own brand and all.

Thanks I'll look into those brands.

Edit - Yea, I wasn't looking at the ones that move themselves... I want to push myself!

The Craftsmen at Sears are solid. Honda is the best, IMO...but probably tough to find at under 400.

I have a Craftsman mower. Cheap and solid. Too bad you have to walk into Sears to get one.

I think I paid $100 for it so that + 1 gallon of gas has lasted me 1.5 seasons so far.

just buy any cheap mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. In 5 or 10 years, replace it. You will still have spent less than buying a Honda, Grasshopper, or Cub Cadet.

I got a super recycler last year, so far it's been good. I believe the ones at home depot are just their regular recycler models, differences being the cast alunimum deck, and better wheels, they're may be other differences with regards to the motor, but those two are the ones I recall. I love the personal pace system, very easy to use.

I have a Toro with a Honda engine and it starts up every time.

Oops, put Troy Built before, but I think it's Toro come to think of it...

Have you looked on Craigslist? I see several decent mowers in my area for around $100.

Honda but they are pricey. Come to think of it I'm still on my gas from last summer too. My yard is around 25x40 though with a large patio so it doesn't take much.

I'm checking right now. There are a lot of them out there. I just hope to find one that's in good condition and such! A new one can be had for about ~200-250.

This one?

I found this one.

Yea, I had a battery powered trimmer and then eventually it would just lose charge. I upgraded my chainsaw from electric to gas, now it's time to upgrade my lawn mower. this upcoming winter I'm probably going to upgrade my electric snow blower to a gas one as well.

I like my Scott's Reel Mower, about $150 and you get some exercise and time to think. I can cut my 5000 sq ft of actual lawn and do some shrubs in about 2 hours, I usually do it after work during the week and just take my time.

My last gas mower was a 6.5HP self propelled that did an excellent job, but when I want to smell gas I will work on my car.
