lawn care tips

I need all you lawn manicurists to help me out. Last year was the first year we had the house so I did the basics, cutting the lawn, trimming, spraying weeds/dandelions.

But I want a lawn the neighbors will envy. Can someone break this down for me? Best brands, things I'll need, etc.

Also, we now have two large dogs that run around in the back yard, so I'll need to do some re-seeding. Any tips on that process? Are certain types of seed hardier than others?

Hire a gardener named Jesus. Lot's of people talk about this guy and I even see fish emblems on the backs of cars with his name on it. If he's not available I'm sure his friend Jose could do just as good a job...even though he doesn't have the marketing campaign Jesus seems to have.

The best money you'll invest in your lawn is getting it professionally tested. Sure it's more expensive than getting a kit and testing it yourself, but they'll give you a readout with what you have to do to balance your soil to promote healthy lawn growth.

You also need to find out where you're applying the seed. You really can't go wrong with a Sun and Seed Mix in most cases or what's called Tall Fescue.

To get more helpful information, you'd need to prove us with your soil test results and some basic information on your lawn (type of grass, climate, soil composition, light exposure levels, etc.).

You want to be envied? Let your lawn go to shit while you sit there and relax as they toil away. They'll hate you every time the breeze picks up and carries the tumbleweeds off your yard and into theirs. They'll envy you whenever they are mowing, watering, weeding, or otherwise toiling while you go fishing.

Wait until just before the grass goes to seed before mowing after winter. If you have thin spots then let the grass go to seed instead of mowing before. That should work, I guess. Try to keep mowing intervals to at most one mowing for every two mows your neighbors do. Avoid raking up your clippings. Simply spread the clumps out with your feet as you pass behind them with the mower. Always attempt to get as close as you can to the edge of things to avoid having to use a weed eater. Long periods of dry weather in the summer is a good thing. Limit the watering of the lawn. This cuts down on grass growth and in turn cuts down on mowing intervals. To take care of leaves in the fall all you have to do is mow over them. If you have a bunch of leaves stuck in a corner then just rake them out, spread them out, and mow over them.

These tips have worked well for me so far. If I think of others later I'll let ya know.
