lawmower problem: help?

ok, i had a problem with the carburetor, someone helped me fix it (or perhaps not....) and i start the mower up and go; it a riding lawnmower, and it stops moving. the engine runs, everything sounds fine, and if i tap the clutch, it moves again...maybe 20 feet or so, and stops moving; never cuts off or anything. it moved as long as i tapped the clutch....which is annoying so i quit mowing the grass after say....40 feet.

anyway, what should i be looking for? mower is a YardMAchine by MTD; i just took the carburetor off because it was stuck open and the engine was full of fuel; but its fixed now and then this comes up.
