Hey everyone, Im a senior in highschool and I have a bit of a problem. I go to school 1-4th hours (we have 7) just fine. At this time most students eat lunch, they are given 30 minutes or so. A handful of students on the other hand, have a different agenda. There is something called Tech Center at our school, and we go out there for a 3 hour class of our choice if we want. There's all kinds of classes, the one Im talking is Computer Technology ( \/\/007! ) but I have a problem. We get dismissed from class at 11:41pm. And Tech Center class starts at 12 pm. That gives us 19 minutes to get our sh!t, get to our car, get to the tech center and eat. WHAT?!?!? Lets break this down a little bit...

Today I get out of Chemistry at 11:42 because we are finishing up notes on something.

I get to my locker at approximately 11:44, halls are congested.

I get to my car at 11:47, Im not running like a sprinter, and I have to take my books to tech center.

I get to the tech center at about 11:52.

I get my stuff out of my car and into the building by 11:53 1/2

I now have 6 1/2 minutes to eat whatever I brought into the building, and to buy whatever drink I want. I don't have much of a choice since I can't buy any lunch like the normal kids. I get pop.

Does this seem right/fair to you guys? Am I expected to eat while I drive? What happens on the days that Im doing a lab in chemistry and I don't get out for another 2-3 minutes? Why is it that this handful of kids that go to afternoon tech center get barely anytime to eat? I don't understand it, and now I come to my fellow anandtechers in help. :)

I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed to eat people, I had to go to soccer practice for 2 hours after school on a half sandwhich full stomach. Thats just not fair! I have a game tomorrow, and I WILL be adequately nutritioned. So Im going to talk to my principle in the morning, and see what he says about it. If Im not given a solution tomorrow Im going to sit in my car, eat my lunch. And when I am done walk into my tech center, even if its 15 minutes late.

So do you guys think thats a bad idea? lol... I dunno what to do!

Eat in class. I used to do it. But my teachers were cool with it.

Same here. The only way my high school was able to schedule a physics lab (and subsequently, the course) was to share it with a lunch period. It helped that a dozen kids wanted to take this course so the teacher was really flexible with letting us eat. How many other people are in the same boat?

Yeah, that's pretty unfair... but I just eat in class if I can't finish it, or if I decide something else is more worthwhile than eating. :D

I invented eating and working.

My kindergarten class was filled with impudent morons and the teacher made everyone write "I will not talk in class" 10 times.
Naturally, I protested the punishent and threatened to call my lawyer, but it didnt work out.

Some kids went to lunch, some kept writing. I ate while I wrote. Damn I was a genius......

This has been my flashback for the day.

Yeah, that's a very short time you have there. Trying to talk to someone about it, perhaps getting it changed, is a good idea. Meanwhile though, do what you can to save on time, bring everything you need to eat/drink from home, eat some in the car, and then finish as much as possible perhaps being a few minutes late. Then try to finish/eat agin after school but before your sports activities. Good luck.

Our school doesn't even allow us to eat in the hallways letalone class... and on top of that CHEMISTRY CLASS. There is one other in my Chem. class that also has PM tech. I dont know how big she is on eating though. I personally need it, for an athlete to go to practice/games everyday afterschool on an empty stomach can DRASTICALLY reduce his/her performance, plus Im freagin hungry!

what do you eat? It only takes me about 5-6 minutes to finish my lunch (granted, its just a sandwich and water) but I dont think you need 15-20 minutes to eat. It would be nice to HAVE that much time, but sometimes you dont get it.

My schedule for last semester (college) went from 10:10 am to 3:30 PM with NO BREAKS, except for the 15 minutes in between classes, most of which was used walking cross campus. I either skipped class, ate while walking, or didnt eat.

Maybe you could buy your drink before chem? And have your tech center materials as well? That would shave off a couple minutes so you could go from chem to your car? And since its your car, you can just leave the chem stuff in there. Probably only a notebook and text max, right?

edit: accidentally put physics instead of chem.

edit2: some carbs will give you a nice boost of energy after school helping with the afterschool workouts. Have an apple or something.

Im actually alergic to fruit, so that ideas gone. lol.

I only was able to eat half a sandwhich in the time I had today. I could eat in my car, but I mean how save/fair is that? Its alot more safe to eat while walking, then eat while driving. I don't want all the time in the world, I just want like 10-15 minutes to eat. Just so I can get my food down. And besides, we dont do anything in computer tech. anyway. We sit there and do NOTHING, its such a waste of a class.

I think there already is a law, isn't there? When I tried to drop lunch so I could take a class that wouldnt fit anywhere else in my schedule, they said I couldnt because the law said I am reaquired to take lunch. I think it runs along the same lines with when you work X amount of hours, you are required to take a lunch break. If you are _unable_ to use your time, you have every right to complain.

ahaha, I do need to eat though. Not because Im fat if thats what your thinking though. Im 5'9 135 pounds, so hardly fat. Im quite skinny actually, thats why I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to it. And yes I thought there was a law, but Ive been looking for it. Does anyone know where I might be able to find this law for sure? Im in Michigan btw, if its a state law.

No offense to Cuda, but this is almost a Jerboy-esque thread.

WTF is that?

Haha... I don't want to start in on Jerboy right now. Too good of a mood. If RD's around, maybe he could fill him in.

Well I get a vague hint that its something to do with whining. If thats what you think, then your way off. I just was wondering what you guys think about this. I don't feel like being hungry everyday this year yah know?

Of course not. No one likes to go hungry. But seeing if there's a law on it is just silly. You made the choice to do the tech thing, that carries the added responsibility of transporting yourself. Get a thing of granola bars and some gatorade and leave it at that.

Yes I made the choice to take computer technology, but I did not decide to take it in the afternoon, when I cannot eat lunch. Instead of in the morning, when I do get lunch. I took this same class last year and had it in the AM, and I had no problem going to and from tech center, and I had a lunch period. Now that I take it in the afternoon my lunch disappeared. But for now, its going to be OJ and some snacks.

The reason why I was wondering whether or not there was a law is because I was going to talk to my principle tomorrow, and if he gave me any sh!t, atleast I would be well informed and able to tell him what HAS to be done, and know what doesn't. Hardly pointless IMO.
