I'm sure we have people on this forum who are much more knowledgeable on the topic of RC planes than me, but here goes...
These "cheap" RC planes can be a bit frustrating, especially if you think your kids will be piloting spectacular swooping flights right out of the box. That has not been my experience so far with two different planes in the $50-$100 price range (but, granted, not this particular model). By design these planes are very light and tend to have limited engine power, which makes them (I think) susceptible to even very slight changes in the wind. We find that many flights are over in 5 seconds because a hard breeze sends the plane into a vertical climb/stall/nosedive behavior. It's hard to counteract that from the ground when all you can control is whether the plane turns right or left. After 6 or 7 flight attempts, when we finally do get a lofty flight going, the plane always manages to fly further away than our radio control range, and the "auto-land" feature has had an uncanny knack of depositing the plane 50 feet up in a tree on two separate occasions. We then spend an hour pummeling the tree with tennis balls to dislodge the @@#$ plane. This is despite flying the thing in a huge soccer field complex with plenty of open space.
Maybe I just don't understand aeronautics, but I think you always get what you pay for.
