Tide Free. . . .my college chemistry professor once told us that a fourth or fifth of the recommended dosage will work just fine so i usually use a little more than half the usual amount. . . .and yes my clothes are clean and smell fine :)

Just use half as much, I did that when I had a front-loader and rarely used HE soaps. It even said in the manual that you could use regular, just to use half as much.

I use Trader Joes house brand soap and line dry all my clothes now.

When I suggested to my wife that we try something else besides Tide, she gave me a look that caused me to never revisit the subject.

Why do HE washers need a different kind of detergent?

The washing machines in my apartment building don't let you put in fabric softener in the beginning, so now I use Tide with Downy so I don't have to wait around for the rinse cycle.

I believe the biggest reason is that they generate much less suds.

That doesn't leave us many options, usually Tide HE/Free or All HE/Free, (IMO, All sucks all) and Kirkland HE/Free. I do 99% of the laundry in the house, and for my shopping/washing dollar, the Kirkland brand does as good or better job than the Tide product, and costs MUCH less.

Yep Kirkland brand at Costco. is great

I like the Arm & Hammer Tropical Breeze. Economical too, I get 5L for $5.

I also like Gain Apple Mango Tango, too.

I like Gain and Downy.

In school I used to get compliments on my clothes smell.

What I don't get is the people that smell like wet dogs...WTF, don't let your clothes sit wet in the washer for days.

I am not picky about brands, but the detergent has to be free of any fragrance or dyes. I usually go for whatever is on sale that meets my requirements.

Same here. I've been alergic to the scented stuff since I was little. I also use 1/2 a dryer sheet instead of a full one.

Instead of the dryer sheets, switch to Downy Free. If you're allergic to the fragrences, (our daughter is) you'll appreciate the difference.

Downy free eh? I'll have to look into that. Thanks.
