I don't see how the GTX 980 is appealing at $50 less.

I mean:

GTX 970s cost around 30% less for 10-15% less performance.

The GTX 980 Ti if it debuts at $649 would cost 30% extra for 25-30% more performance.

Given those conditions, a regular 980 would be in a weird spot if it only dropped to $500. That's why I say the 980 should drop to $400 if the $649 price on the Ti is true.
If the 980 would drop like that I'll consider it over the 980 Ti or r 390x because like you said performance is only 25-30% more not 50% more.

I know what you mean, I already had a GTX 970, I was considering either a second hand GTX 980 or buying the 970 again later this year but now seeing the price drop I'm more inclined on buying a brand new 980.

Your thoughts are in line with mine.
Long time no see , how you been?

Kid #2 on the way in two weeks. I have barely played any games in the past 6 months or so. Trying to concentrate on getting a promotion at work and being a daddy at home. I flirted with "downgrading" my video card until 14/16 finfet comes along, but eh. On the off chance I get a day or two of free time I'd like the option to load up something pretty. Where you been???? You've been missing for like.... almost two years!

I dont know man.

GTX 980Ti selling for $649 will sell like hotcakes if the rumored price of $850 for Radeon Fury is true. On top of that the Fiji XT may even have a TDP of 350W vs 980Ti`s 235W.

AMD got old rebrands and and a premium expensive card. Nvidia have two value cards (970 and 980Ti) based on a much more efficient architecture and the performance of 980Ti may only be 10% ish below Fury at a more cheaper price. Nvidia have brand recognition and maybe price and architecture in their advantage.

I dont think Nvidia will reduce price at all for 980Ti until probably atleast very late 2015 or early 2016. By then its only months and we have Pascal.
Kepler was different than today`s situation . AMD had Nvidia beat in price/performance. This time they are looking to be very similar in price but efficiency could be an advantage for Nvidia. It depends on how the HBM will play out

The thing is there has been no confirmation on Fury pricing. We don't know what AMD will do with binned Fiji chips and those will be priced. It could be that the 390x is a binned Fiji chip and the 390 is Hawaii XT. Literally nothing has been confirmed besides 4gb Fiji. AMD has been bleeding market share and, hopefully lesson learned, they need to make a great first impression. No more bad thermals. No more mediocre pricing. And hopefully power consumption that isn't out of control. They need to come out swinging because initial impressions last and they should know that by now. I think AMD is going to incite a price war with a $399 Hawaii XT card that is 5% slower than the GTX 980 and it will eventually force prices down on the higher cards too.

Feel bad for anyone who bought a GTX 980 K|NGP|N for $799.99 lmao! Now a card 25-30% faster is coming for $150 less, for less than even though the K|NGP|N has only been out for 2 months.

Shortest lived product ever.

$500? Be prepared to wait for a long long time buddy.

I agree that $649 is a bit overpriced but its much much better than the $799 price wccftech wanted us to believe.
Actually the value seems similar to GTX 780Ti. That card was a full GK110 but it had 4GB GDDR5 and had a MSRP of $699 when it launched.

I can actually get a 980Ti with hybrid water cooling with superior cooling and same performance as TitanX for $749.

Cant wait to get one or two of EVGA Hybrids :D

I thought you might go team red? :D But yeah if it's $650 that's a great price for a 5% slower Titan X w/half the vram. Also the top custom ones will probably fetch about $750-$800. Those might hit Titan X performance at stock or even be slightly faster. AMD better come out swinging hard otherwise they're gonna bleed even more market share.

seems like a good thing if Nvidia price them at 649 as it will allow the Fury pro Riddick version to be in similiar pricepoint and dont go to high
