I like Audis for the most part, but that car just looks stupid. It definately doesn't win any style award from me. 😉

I'd go with a BMW or Mercedes over that car any day. Hell, the VW Jetta is sexier than that thing!

The 3-Series convertible over this? I can see that...

But the CLK convertible over this? Puhlease. Merc cars are so damn diluted now in styling. And let's not forget the gorgeous interior that r@pes BMW and Mercedes. And the Jetta being called sexy???? Get that sh!t out of here! 😀
 
That thing looks nice as hell... I especially like the interior. I wish they use the round "sprtier" ac vents on the standard A4, not just on the cabrio. Also there are some subtle changes to the front and rear of the car (tail lights for example).

I'd take an A4 cabrio over any BMW/Merc convertible period... now I am a bit biased (own an hard top 02 A4) but BMW/Merc can in no way come close to audi styling... although BMW rapes Audi in performance 😉.

While getting my 180K mile Miata towed on Friday, I asked the tow truck driver what new cars have been the most unreliable, ie, which ones he's been picking up the most.

The tow truck driver said he practically makes a LIVING towing Audi A4s and VW Jettas. Specifically, he said it's the transmission, both auto and manual, that go bad right away, often at less than 5000 miles. He's even towed Audis and VWs with less than 1000 miles.

Additionally, he said the... whatever is the name for the transmission casing under the car... the casing is too thin and gets punctured easily. He's given a number of tows to VWs that have had this casing punctured by road debris on freeways. This hasn't happened yet to A4s.


This is disturbing, because the car I'd been thinking of trading in my present wheels for was an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro.

thats the first I've heard of this problem... heck I have ~13K miles on mine and its running great. All I know is that I've read quite a bit about the 02's before and after I got mine and never heard of any transmission problems... weird...

thanks for the info/heads up though.

I'm not surprized. I'm pretty sure they did poorly on JD Power survey too.

Audi and VW are combined together in the JD Power results and they scored 6th place. Try again next time skipper 😀

No offense, but that's the dumbest thing I've read on these boards. I bought my Audi back in 1998 and I haven't had any problem like that, and I'm closing in around 100,000km. Being an owner and knowing many other owners I have never heard of anything like this. Regarding the easily punctured casing....How can road debris even get near this casing (assuming the hood is closed)? I could understand if maybe people were taking axes and smashing the hood of their cars, but small debris would have no chance even getting hear the casing.

Uhhh, true but the two marques are competing against each other (BIG mistake).

The W8 Passat is going up against the A6 in price and the Phaeton is moving into A8 territory. I smell trouble down the line...

Those are 2001 numbers PimpBot, mine are 2002 😀

Even with those 2001 scores, they are better than the industry average which would not be considered "Poor"

I didn't post 2002 because I can't find a complete listing that breaks it down like the list I posted for 2001. It's late, at least for me, so perhaps tommorrow.
As far as 2001 score, yeah, I call that poor. About the only major player I don't see above it is Ford and Porsche and your exotics.

What in sam hill is a pimpbot?
