Latitude v. Inspiron Difference

I've searched the threads in this category and haven't found the answer.

For a similarly equipped Latitude D 620 and Inspiron E 1505 (same size HD, memory, battery, etc)

What is the real difference between the two? Also, how much is that difference worth?

Thanks

JT

D620 should be compared to 640m/E1405. The D820 is the same screen size as the 6400/E1505...

Main difference is the Inspirons are plastic while the Latitudes (the newer models) are magnesium alloy. So the Latitudes are tougher and they can make them slimmer. Weight will be about the same.

The Latitudes come with XP Pro and 3 year warranty, so that's 200$ worth I think. The rest of the price difference would be for the better construction...

The new Inspirons are still very sturdy even if they're all plastic, they don't squeek and bend like older models did, but the magnesium case will definitely be better if you carry it around all the time.

All good points. Also, the Latitudes are aimed at the business market - Inspirons are more aimed at the home market. Differences also vary by year.
