Which one should I choose for college and why? What advantages does one have over the other?

Thanks

Out of all my laptop using college buddies, 2 have Inspirons and 1 with a Sony SuperSlim. There's also Inspirons used where I work. I like (and suggest) the Inspiron 5000e. Have you visited this dell page yet? There, they tell you some differences and let you view all the models. You need to decide what you are going to use it for and what you'll need on it. I suggest at least a 14.1" display if you intend to use it a lot.

They have a special offer on the Latitude models, $100 OFF and FREE Notebook Accessories, but that expires today. A couple of Inspiron models have some other $100 OFF rebate too expiring 3/14..?

Hope I was of some help, else Bump. :)

latitudes are more aimed towards businesses and a a heck of alot lighter. Also, they have no built in cdrom/floppy bay. At least not the CS version, which we use at my work. Insipron also has the "wonderful" ability to swtich colors of the accents...

I have a 5000e with the 15" UXGA 1600x1200 screen I bought it for the screen which is the best out there. This was my first laptop , my next one will be smaller. this one is a little too big and it feels a little flimsy. but it works great P3 750 w/ 256 MB ram.

At work I talked to boss into getting the 5000e w/ a 14" screen. I really like his. the smaller screen seems to make it feel more rigid. we also have a latitude cpi that I like alot. it's a little lighter.
if you're going away to school and this will be your primary computer you should go with one with a cdrom and floppy (or just a cd-rw if you can find it) I'd say the 5000e or maybe even the 8000

also get windows 2000 pro. and the smallest amount of ram you can get. then buy extra from Crucial

EDIT: just saw you can get the Inspiron 4000 with a cd-rw to use in the floppy bay. that might be another option.
