latitude notebook: can I connect external drives hot or reboot?

I have a Dell latitude C400. I am wondering if I can connect the external IDE drives (DVD & floppy) while the machine is running, or do I need to reboot?

As far as I know, you can hotswap the floppy (assuming it is the one that connects to the parrallel port). But, as for IDE devices, I don't think so. But, I may be wrong

You can connect the external drives to your Dell C400 without rebooting.
I have a few of these at work and it goes A-OK for me everytime.
