So I have this Dell Latitude D800 laptop, been fine forever, then we had a power outage a few days ago. Next thing I know, when I boot up the system, the screen will barely flicker and then goes black. It continues to boot into Windows, and I can shine some light at the screen and see what's on it, so the screen, I'd like to believe, is still fine. I've heard that the inverter is the most likely faulty component in this scenario, so I ordered one for $26 on EBay. I've also heard the CCFL, or backlight, could be the problem, and that seems like quite a bit more work to replace, involving some soldering. I'm not the greatest solderer, but I have done some, so hopefully if that is the case, I can maybe handle that as well. Worse case, I destroy the screen, and really at that point I'm not out much, since it's not working anyway. System works fine when I hook up an external LCD and Fn-F8 it.
Anyone else have any experience with this kind of thing? I've found a couple of sites with picture turorials on inverter replacement, seems easy enough, but the CCFL could be an issue for me.
If anyone has any tips/tricks/advice, I'd be greatful. Also, if you live in the Denver, CO area and have experience doing something like this, I would be grateful for assistance, and would gladly spring for a case of beer or a tank of gas or whatever.
