Latex paint storage questions

mugs

Lifer
1. Can unused latex paint be stored indefinitely without degrading?
2. Is it bad to store unused latex paint in freezing temperatures?

I've checked the back of the cans, they say nothing about storage.

Latex paint is water-based, and therefore can freeze (unless the countless chemicals affect it otherwise). Latex paint does degrade over time, settling to the bottom to form a semi-solid mass with no hope of remixing. If you simply store in the can, it'll dry.

less air the better. so small paint can if u only have a little left. u can get em at home depot. store upside down. that way the skin forms on the lid and u can get rid of it... freezing probably destroys it.

The skin will form on the surface exposed to air. If you store it upside down, the skin will be on the bottom of the can.

I've also heard that using glass quart jars to house the remining paint is one of the best ways to ensure that it stays as a fluid. Keep it in the can will mean that the paint is prone to rust from the can.
