Anyone know if the firmware update is the miracle cure woot's making it out to be? I still see bad reviews everywhere against this router

This seems to be one of those products that the manufacturer is simply "dumping" thru woot.

The price is very cheap for a reason. Stay away from this one.

I have just DI-624 and it is shite. It drops the connection constantly, which makes me reset the modem. I hate this router.

I dont know if they still do it or not, but ever since D-Link got the bright idea of slipping in advertising pop-ups while you browse the web through their router I have shunned all D-Link branded products. Just the audacity of that idea is enough, but actually going through with it for unsuspecting buyers... for shame. They can apologize till they are blue in the face, thats just not right.

Holy sh*t, so I reinstalled Windows on my PC for nothing while trying to get rid of unknown adware??? Multiple times too. Screw the apologies. I want my time reimbursed!

I have the exact same router mine used to do that as well. But I called thier tech support and they said that my modem and router have the same IP address. This causes conflicts causing the router to drop the connection. We did some reconfiguring and now my router has never dropped once. Call thier tech support and maybe they can help you.

I also had a horrible experience with the DI-624. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, thankfully BB took it back. I have no experience with this model (DI-624M) if it's different.

What did they tell you to do? I couldn't get a hold of tech support today and running every 5 min to unplug the modem is driving me insane.

I bought a Dlink for my father, and it dropped pretty much constantly, or wouldn't connect at boot. I looked for and found a firmware update that solved it. Just my two cents.

I used a 624 for over a year with no problems. Until my wife got an expensive core duo Sony Vaio. The wireless reception for the Sony across the house was very weak, even though the old Averatech at less than half the price had no problem with wireless reception in the same place.

Bought a 634M which boosted the Sony's wireless reception quite a bit. And that has worked flawlessly for several months now.

I always thought the modem and router had to have different IP's. So maybe you guys with the dropout problem just did not have it set up correctly.

And I never heard of "slipping in advertising pop-ups" being set up in the router and never had a problem with that just using regular means to stop pop-ups.

I would not recommend the Vaio for numerous reasons, but give the 624 a try, just read the setup instructions.

I have 3 DLink wireless USB network adapters around the house, and they work great. Never a single problem with them - they just work. I have a Motorola router, though.

Deal is dead. But I'm giving credit to where it's due, I have the DI-624 as well, it's solid, no problems what so ever. Although woot's was the mimo version.

I didn't know they did that. I know Belkin did the occasional *redirect to Belkin's site* until they were called out publicly. Did D-Link ever get called out on it?

I have one of the older D-Links sitting in the garage. Seems to have died - powers up but no response.

When was this? I can find no record of D-Link ever using pop-ups. You would think it would be easier to find if it was true (on Google, or even BroadbandReports).

I couldn't tell you step by step but they had me reasign the IP address of my modem in the router. I wouln't try this my self as you coud really screw things up. keep calling them. Its usually easier for me to get through ti them later at night like 8-10 pm PST.
