Uhg. I just want to read about something. I don't need a full screen animated background, pages scrolling in and out, laggy response, and an unnecessary need to scroll for the sake of scrolling. It's taking away from the content of the article and shifting my focus to the article itself.

ESPN's layout doesn't bother me near as much. It's still cleaner and not near the cluster fuck that Yahoo sports pages are.

Anything Yahoo sports is a piece of shit. The fact people use any of their sites, particularly for fantasy, boggles my fucking mind.

I hate the new trend of using so much javascript that the site wont even load without having to enable like 30 sites through noscript. The sites you posted arn't actually too bad for that though, I've seen MUCH worse. Then there's modals. I freaking HATE those. Those are the things where the whole page goes grey and you get a javascript popup and you can't do anything before you close it. A lot of them are delayed too, so they come up when you're in middle of reading an article. It seems there are no easy way to block those either because as far as an ad blocker is concerned it's just another layout element. It's not calling a popup function or something else that a program can detect and block.

People make fun of "1999 style" web pages, but honestly, I'll take that over most of the crap today.

LOL - funny you make a thread about this. I was talking with some buddies about going out for some music and beers tonight, and one of them mentions "Public House 49" .... so I go to their website to check it out for more information, you know... maybe a menu or something?

I don't think there's a better fantasy page out of the big 4 (ESPN, CBS, Yahoo or NFL) that's better than Yahoo.

i like that style but only for certain sites. i think it works great for that 3rd one. terrible for the review page, and the microsoft one has major performance issues, that i think are not really related to the parallax effect. they also have full "screens" when scrolling of nothing but a background image, which is totally useless.

Adblock, yo.

I'm really torn on what I hate more...needless click bate "lists" where you have to click through 50 slides with an add tossed in every third one. Or these "Journalized" sites that are trying to be overly trendy and make the review an "experience".

I was just have this discussion the other day and almost posted here about it (laziness won).

These "full width 1/2 height images" SUCK BALLS.

I should NOT have to scroll past an entire freaking page worth of a single picture just to get to the first text of the article. It'r HORRIBLE and certainly growing trend. Does it look good? Sure... I guess. But there HAS to be some functionality before form... right?

Hahaha wow that's such fail. Not even an enter button or any way to get to the main site. The average user is not going to think to type /menu. Lol wait, that's just a premade template that they did not even edit? Even more hilarious.

I first saw that style of website with a site on Bill Gates' gatesnotes I think. It's...ok I guess, I imagine they're trying to get the effect of a full-spread magazine article. I do like that it actually attempts to use more space on a widescreen monitor.

At least paypal stopped their full window full motion video that was on their home page. That was freaking annoying.

Yeah, I hated that too.

It was like a full screen softcore porn. Some hot chick in summer clothes right up in your face, full screen.
