Whatever makes fat people able to sleep better. In the meantime I make no exuses and I get off my ass. People will look to anything but themselves for the cause of their problems *shrug*.

That's lame. It flies in the face of scientific evidence of the article. Guess no science can stand up against your conviction that obesity is a failure of willpower huh? Sure that may be often true, but the article contends that it is not true 15% of the time*.

I sit on my ass all the time and I'm thin! I owe it all to genetics! Thanks mom & dad!

This link says 32% of obese people have the AD-36 virus (with 4% of lean people having it), and 19% have ANOTHER obesity virus called SMAM-1

Interesting that the SMAM-1 virus was first tested for because someone figured out it made chickens fat. I would not doubt for a minute that chicken & cattle in this country is given these viruses to produce more meat, especially when both viruses simultaneously LOWER cholesterol.

That first link was from 1997. Interesting either the margin of error on these things is pretty big or the virus has become a lot more widespread in the last 6 years.

But does being fat imply producing more meat? Since the 80's, livestock breeds that are lean are preferred. And producing more fat means that there are fewer calories available to produce muscle tissure in livestock.

have any of you considered the possibility that Overweight people stop excercising because they are fat and not the other way around?? it's the chicken or egg type problem.

does the fever cause the flu? or does the flu cause the fever?

Just because it's in a web site doesn't mean the information is real. you need statistical data from control and cases along with the method the experiment was carried out in order to back it up.

technically, if you store it in a more weight inefficient way (fat is mainly water), you could put on more weight than you eat, but not more weight than you consume.

I dont know which, if any, food sources would apply in this manner. Probably pure sugar.

Food for thought:

Your body is not 100% efficient at extracting energy from food or storing it as fat/muscle tissue. A Calorie is a unit of energy given off by BURNING the food, as in, with a match. If you were 100% efficient at processing the food, there would be no flammable materials released from your butt periodically. It is conceivable something could increase the amount burned or stored to be a higher percentage, giving you more fat, less crap.

This is mostly a response to what I've seen posted in threads here about weight gain = calories eaten - calories burned. That is not accurate. A closer equation would be weight gain = food eaten - food released in bathroom (for most of us anyway).

its not a gene my friends... in 99% of the cases, its too many big macs, and too little exercise

Apparently, the virus causes laziness to (in chickens at least.)

"The infection appears to turn the animals into couch potatoes, Dhurandhar says. For instance, "chickens who get the virus sit in a lump all day long," while the uninfected birds scratch about normally"

jesus...
this is painfully simple. you eat x amount of calories a day. you use y amount of calories a day. if x = y, you stay the same weight. if x < y, you lose weight. if x > y, you gain weight.

that's it. 300 lb people aren't fat because their genes allow their bodies to create matter out of nothing. i have vast oceans of respect for the overweight people i know who are content with their bodies and make no excuses. i have equal amounts of animosity for those who try fad diet after fad diet and still bemoan their excess mass. but whatever, i honestly don't care as long as i don't have to hear them bitch about it.
