This isn't a real issue of course, but I'm surprised the President would allow for such terrible optics. I mean look at that photo.. whether or not an article was written about it that isn't a photo you want appearing in the newspaper. How appalling that they should perform acts beneath themselves and excuse it as respect and courtesy for mere civilians. No self respecting warrior should even consider touching such an effeminate accoutrement.

He is the President, commander and chief of the armed forces, I think a exception is warranted here for umbrella use.

As far as the outrage goes, its likely due to him being black and the marines who held it up are white...I usually would never say that but in this case it looks to be true. Other presidents had marines do the same thing and not a peep was to be heard.
