still they cost a lot more than 3.5" drives.

looks like these have lots of praises - quite bit faster than prev gen 7200rpm 2.5" drives. I'm expecting WD 7200 250Gb that I have paid $119.99.

Anybody got any of those?

Larger hard drives at slower rotational speed are almost always faster than the smaller hard drives that rotate faster just because of platter density.

Maybe... the latest desktop 7200RPM drives surpass older Raptors in STR, but the VelociRaptor is still faster. Also, it isn't just about transfer rates, as higher RPM reduces rotational latencies and thus a system with a higher RPM drive may feel "snappier."

There's only one mobile drive with size over 320GB, and it has one more platter - it is thicker than rest of 2.5in drives. So those 320GB 7200rpm drives are really fastest mainstream drives for laptops that you can get.

WD just started shipping a 2-platter standard thickness 500 GB drive - Ars Technica - MSRP is $220

... which is reasonable if you want to turn a $350 Asus eee desktop into a tiny little media server.

My drive has arrived and I am very satisfied, it is very quiet and fast. It is so quiet that laptop fan is louder than it. Sequential read performance has reached 1st gen raptors...

A 320 @7200 RPM for less that $150 is a ganga deal! I got a 200 GB 7200 RPM drive in August of 2007 for $220. Prices have dropped seriously since then. Who knows - after this week, they may give them away to stay in business.

I don't know what I'll do with 120 more GB on the laptop. The 200 is only 30% full.
