Sorry for the formatting. Doesn't seem to be too bad a unit, for 230 dollars. Screen is 1024x600, though I'm sure its brightness/contrast is crap. Neat toy.

Wits refreshes their product about every 4 months, so don't expect to have updates for along time with it.

Single core A8. The resolution is okay. 8gb onboard NAND? Camera is a little wimpy... is it front facing I assume? 15mm thick... that's still over half an inch thick.

Given the screen in it is gonna suck, it's maybe worth about $175 to be competitive. Oh, and battery life is gonna suck.

Spec's say its a front facing camera. Not sure about the MP rating, guessing probably either 0.3Mpixel or 1.3Mpixel. Ok for video chats and webcam, but its probably cut a lot of corners on the lenses too.

I had an A81E, the Wits units have decent build quality for the money you spend. Keep in mind, no other tablet has these specs in the sub-250 price range. The Nook Color has a much better screen, but a much weaker cpu/gpu than this. Plus you have to root it to make it a real tablet. The Wits units pretty much run bone stock Android, without all the phone services running in the background, so they're much faster than a phone would be on identical hardware. I believe the OMAP3730 that powers this is nearly identical to the OMAP3630 that powers the Droid X, which has an SGX530. Not sure if the 3730 uses the SGX535 or 540 though, the 530 is going to struggle driving that 1024x600 resolution screen.

But, realistically, Wits will refresh this to the A91<Insert Letter> in a few months, so it'll get a spec bump. :p

Hold on there. Seems like this OMAP has the exact same SGX530 GPU that the Nook Color has:

They technically have the same CPU, but B&N clocks it down for battery life. The primary differences then are the addition of cameras, better bluetooth, etc. I agree that the advantages of the Nook Color only really come out with hacking, but I would claim that the better screen, better build quality (opinion based on screenshots and videos), and a deeper development community (with fine grained overclock and tons of ROMs) are understated advantages of the Nook Color. Now that you can get a Nook Color from B&N for $200 online, it comes down to what you value.

The 530 is going to struggle driving that 1024x600 resolution screen.

Yeah it kinda does. Don't get me wrong- it can play many basic games pretty easily. But to play Tegra class games with Chainfire 3D you sometimes need a little more. The trick the Nook Color developers have done is to force all games (the whole interface) into 16 bit mode which brings an amazing improvement in speeds. This makes many Tegra games very playable with honestly very little degradation of image quality.

Points well taken. Its just an alternative tablet. Wits refreshes frequently, so this'll get a spec bump next quarter.
