Hello there my first post here a query i.e

well this has been worrying me for quite a while now
i was wanting to buy a new system a system upgrade rather
i was looking to buy a E6300 C2D processor setup
my query is games these days needs a good config
talking about CPU requirements you usually find
some games require a cpu clocking say 2ghz+ (oblivion)

now the e6300 clocks at 1.8ghz considering me a noob in hardware
how is this processor going to fare when games require a cpu 2-2.4ghz
will the cpu be able to run these games or would the dual cores come into play

looking forward to getting this query solved

:)

The e6300, ignoring overclocking, should do just fine for some time. When requirements are talking about 2ghz+ their pretty much talking a regular plain old single core 32bit 2ghz cpu.

Minimum/recommended specs are usually given something like "2GHz Pentium4, or Athlon XP processor, or equivalent", i.e. the 2GHz refers to the P4 architecture. If it just specifies a 2GHz processor, then the lowest common CPU is a Celeron: many times less powerful than an E6300 (1.8GHz :) ).

If you really want to find out the direct equivalent of an E6300 you need some kind of CPU ranking chart (like at tomshardware), but rest assured that the E6300 is as good as any 3+Ghz Pentium-D.

aha!! ok i got it so in the end it is the architecture that counts not really the clock speed
went up to tomshardware did not find the E6300 but did compare the E6400 with
a Pentium D 820 and the AMD X2 3800+(the other proccessor i had my eyes on) found the performance diffrences

so i'd definately get this processor setup
thanks a lot for clearing my doubt
