Latest Catalyst drivers, frame latencies and older Radeons?

I remember reading I think on techreport.com about newer cards in AMD's range being affected by this problem stemming from a different chip manufacturing technique being used, is this correct? I'm wondering whether my now-lowly 5770 might be also affected.

Just use older drivers? I used my 5770 until it died. Impressive card.

Pretty sure the rewrite is only for new cards.

Though, it would be interesting to see if cards older than 7xxx compare with latencies in the same games.

I'm using 12.6 drivers at the moment. I don't generally upgrade drivers without a good reason ("If it ain't broke don't fix it"), I was just wondering whether this might constitute a good reason.

As far as I know the 6000 series and before are not impacted. I did not see this problem on my 5970 and I do not see it on a 6950. I only ever experienced it on a pair of 7970 (single or dual card) so I am fairly sure its isolated to the latest GCN cards.
