Love Tool and Lateralus is there best release. When 10000 Days came out many fans went ... wtf, but there were a number of songs that stood out from the beginning. It did take a while to embrace some of the more atmospheric songs on that album. It's been over 6 years since 10000 Days and i hope they have it in them to do one more. I'd like to see another Perfect Circle as well...

Agree with this. Although Tool has always had good artwork for their albums, the 10000 Days one complete with stereoscope lenses was really cool. It is also a reminder of what we are trading in for the convenience of digital downloads and streaming.

I saw A Perfect Circle open for NIN, very soon after they got together. Maynard seemed a lot more pointed than when I saw Tool several years later. Well he didn't really speak much at all during the Tool concert, but was very adamant about the sad state of music at the APC/NIN one.

Tool is good but I find them to not be a band I can just grab and listen to. You need to be in a Tool mood.

Why not? To me, it's all band members jazzing out at the same time.

Just don't like the sound. Kind of metal, kind of alt rock, kind of prog rock, and vocal centric. They're talented enough, but like 70s prog rock bands, I'm not into the sound.

I just listened to this album for the first time because of this thread. It's really good and overall I liked it but sadly I can't agree that it is the greatest album of the 21st century.
Maybe it will grow on me after a few listens though.

I like it quite a bit, but I prefer their 90's albums to it, not to mention dozens of albums from other bands.

Lateralus is a great album but 'Right in Two'(10,000 days) = Best Tool song ever!!!

There were three songs from 10,000 Days that jumped out but most of the rest of the album took some getting used to. Vicarious, Jambi and Right in Two had an immediate following and got good airplay, the others, not so much.

I still think my favorite Tool song is Sober and the video for it is amazing...

Favorite song from Lateralus is Ticks & Leeches

Tool's fans should all know of Karnivool.

People often compare them to Tool, but they have their own sound. As a Tool fan who has traveled to see Tool in concert, I absolutely adore Karnivool. Ian Kenny is on the same level of signing/songwriting as Maynard Keenan, imho. He will totally lose sight of his on stage behavior as he gets deeper into the music. Weird movements.. like he's dreaming or something. He totally loses himself in the music on stage.

That's just a tip of the iceberg. I highly recommend taking a day of discovery for Karnivool if you are a Tool fan. Plenty of stuff on youtube.

Lateralus is a great album. It's not the best album of the millennium though. Offhand, I prefer Aesop Rock's Labor Days, Non-Prophets' Hope and RJD2's Deadringer. I could probably think of some others as well.

I posted this at 2:32 PM PST; it's showing as 8:44 AM. That's odd.
