I recently switched ISPs on my DSL service.
I was originally hooked up to my University's ISP service (which was free but limited to 256k).
This was $30/month.
I'm now connected to Qwest.net for my ISP service (allows me to go to 640k/272k).
This is $50/month.
My downloads have gotten dramatically faster...now I get around 60-70k/sec vs 25k/sec.
But this comes at a cost. I play a lot of counter-strike, and my pings to various servers have
gotten much higher. University servers used to ping at around 30-50...but now they ping at 125+.
Other servers are also much slower and I can't find any pings under 85.
Bottom line is, my bandwidth increased...but so did my latency. Is there any way to improve this or is it on the ISP's end? Can anyone recommend an ISP in the Denver/Boulder, Colorado area that provides a good combination of
high bandwidth/low latency? I tried DSL reports but I couldn't find the information I was looking for.
