Latency issues on the east coast?

Anyone having some strange latency lately on the east coast? Im in VA, and play alot of team fortress 2 online, and normally my pings were in the teens - 20s on my favorite servers, now they are generally 60-100. Its not my routers or PC's, because i have changed all of that out. No viruses/spyware either. I have several routers and such laying around for testing, and cables. Also, ive noticed my www.speedtest.net pings to the Morristown, TN server have skyrocketed as well, and several other east coast locations. My ISP, of course, will say there is nothing wrong on their end. I assume there are maybe some outages on the ol backbone somewhere, or some routing changes. My ISP is Sunset Digital Communications, and im on a fiber connection.

Is anyone in the know, or have some suggestions?

How long has this been going on? A few hours? A few days? A week? It's possible that a backbone network went down and the increase in response times (for www.speedtest.net as an example) could be the result of the re-routing of your network traffic to another network to compensate for the downed network.

Now that may not be the case, but it is possible that might be happening and it should be a temporary issue.
