Latency Difference RDRAM 8 Device vs 16 Device

I know that the 16 Device stick will overclock better, but also have higher latency. At what amount would you think the 16 device stick would have to be overclocked to overcome the latency difference?

I plan on getting a 1.8A and a TH7II. I will probably only do a minor OC to 2Ghz... would it be better for me to get 8 or 16 device?

Thanks

I'm wondering the same thing would it be better two 16 device 256 mb sticks or two 8 device? Or i might just get 2 8 device 128 mb sticks. RDRAM has to be run in pairs right?

Wrong. Only RDRAM (P4) and the nVidia nForce Boards (Athlon) are dual channel currently. At the end of the year, however, Intel will roll out some dual channel DDR boards.

I assume zemus is referring to RDRAM chipsets, in which case he is correct. All currently available RDRAM chipsets are dual 16-bit channel.

Some manufacturers, such as ASUS have implemented a hack for the i850E chipset, to support a single 32-bit RIMM, thereby getting around needing a matched pair.

I don't have solid figures for RDRAM latency for each additional device on the bus. However, as bus speed increases, the latency decreases, so although 16 devices has more latency at default speeds, this is reduced if you overclock.

I personally prefer an 8-device RIMM....less latency, cooler running.
