Made some Betty Crocker Oatmeal Chocolate chip cookies, last time I had them they were awesome, but that was about a year ago and I had actual vegetable oil to use, the mix calls for 1/3 cup of veggie oil, well tonight I started mixing the egg and water in the cookie mix and went to get the oil and all I had was olive oil so I figured what the hell I had already started so.................

How do you think they will taste? they are cooling right now.

Sounds great. Then again, I just finished off about 5 Samoas out of the Girl Scout cookie box. ;)

Hehe, well they taste fine to me but there is still the stigma of having used olive oil instead of >regular< vegetable oil, I need an unbiased oppinion, I will have to wait til my wife gets home and tries them, without telling her about the olive oil of course :D

Stigma? Olive oil is way healthier...so you can eat 3x more cookies than usual. :D

When one eats cookies, the intent is to taste chocolaty sweetness, not salad dressing. The oil is supposed to have a neutral flavor so it doesn't contaminate the goodness that is home baked cookies.

Urp! ahem belch, I have had my fill already, experiencing a bit of an aftertaste, not entirely pleasant :p

Going to bed now but will check in tomorrow to let all know how everything comes out ;)

Olive oil will give the cookies a strange flavor, especially the after taste. If you had used light or extra light olive oil, you may have been able to get away with it. Extra virgin has way too much flavor though.

He said oatmeal cookies... I say crisco. Oatmeal cookies made w/ butter taste like ass. Also, in general butter = crunchy cookies, shortening = puffy, cakey, or chewy cookies.

Well, they didnt kill us, and the people who ate them not knowing olive oil was used said
that they were good.

I thought there was an aftertaste but no one else said anything, so I guess if you need to
make cookies and have no vegetable oil then olive oil will do, for me though, I will make
sure I have what I need before I start mixing next time :D

A friend of mine makes what he calls olive oil cookies every now and then. Those taste good, albeit a little different than your normal cookie. Not sure what other spices are in 'em though.

BUTTER! Any crunchy cookie, like TollHouse cookies MUST be made with BUTTER!,
and it has to be soft butter too, nothing worse than trying to mix cookie dough with hard butter :|
