Late night apartment complex etiquette

Here's the story. (Yes, last night was a friday night and yes I live in a college town.)

Its 1:30am, and a bunch of guys leave the apartment across the courtyard from mine, talking loud enough that I can hear them with my window closed and fan on. They proceed to the parking lot and continue to yell/talk with the guy who lives in the apartment (still at his second story balcony). After a couple of minutes of yelling, they stand around their car in the parking lot revving their engine, talking, and slamming their doors. When they finally leave, they peel out of the parking lot.

Yes, a call to the cops would have been possible, but 15 minutes later, they probably would have been gone and I would be just as angry. I don't mind talking and walking to their car, I let that slide, but I started getting pissed when they sat around the parking lot for 20 minutes.

Now, to the point. Would it have been wrong for me to get up, load up a paintball gun, and peg one of them in the shoulder to shut them up?

Poll included.

you're a freaking idiot. it's a collegetown. don't like it? move back to the dorms. what's more, a paintball gun is by no means accurate, you might peg one in their eye, and say bye bye to their eye.

Technically, you shouldn't do it cause you could get arrested, but I know exactly how you feel and I would have applauded your paintball efforts. Fvcking inconsiderate people.

passive-aggressive much?

why not just go down there and ask them nicely to quiet it down because you have to work on the morning (or any other excuse).

Move back to the dorms? Yeah, like having tons of freshman around who just got free of their parent's reigns will be perfectly civil.

Maybe I shouldn't shoot them, but it was damn tempting.

I don't feel like going down there because I'd have to get up, get dressed, and walk down those steps to tell them to stop doing what they shouldn't? Next time I'm just going to call the pd with a violation of local noise ordinance.

A friend of mine nailed a guy on a riding lawnmower in the ass with a b-b gun from his bedroom window. It was around 8:00 on a Sunday morning and he thought the guy was mowing too early.

After yelling at the guy a few times to shut the mower off he shot him right through the screen window.

Yeah, he was pretty much an idiot. The cops went straight to his door (because the guy on the mower told them who was doing the yelling), and they proved it by pointing to the hole in his screen.

He ended up doing community service.

Should have opened the window and yelled "STFU AHHHHHHHHH!" Like a madman, works for me.

YOU chose to live in an apt complex. You have to deal w/ others noise. It really doesn't sound unreasonable (while I wouldn't have done it..)

I live in a townhouse (used to live in an apt in the same complex..) and while I'm very quiet, I do know others can sometimes hear me. While in my apt I had neighbors who, while I had to be SILENT all the time, were loud themselves.

Also, I can't stand people with kids. Kids and apt complexes don't mix. Get a fscking house for crying out loud.

My townhouse seems to be much better insulated. I cannot hear any of my neighbors (I have neighbors on 2 of 4 sides) at all. I've lived here 3 weeks and am haven't heard even one peep. I dunno if they are just quiet or if it's an insulation thing or what.

dude, it was only 1:30 am... maybe you should consider moving into a senior center, or get a house with Blanche and Rose ;)

especially in a college town, I'd either let it slide or yell at them to keep it down.

Why would you peg them with a paintball gun when you could just yell out the window 'STFU or I'm calling the cops'. It would relieve your frustration, possibly cause a scene, AND no potential eye loss scenarios!

most civilized people would kindly ask them just to shutup. Angry people would yell at them to "STFU" but you want to shoot them? :p Perhaps try the aformentioned first two steps... then revert to the third if needed...

While I'd have been pissed off and all, shooting them from your window (thus giving them an idea of direction to tell the police they'd call) would be a bad idea. I'd equate it to a dog barking. Would you get mad at the dog? These guys, much like 98% of people, don't sound much more intelligent, and so no sense getting mad. In a situation like that I'd probably have a drink or two and try to forget it.

Your third option is retarded. If they would vandalize your door for you yelling at them, do you really think shooting a paintball gun at them would make them NOT do anything worse?

*sigh*

B/T Noisy Hip Kids like you've described, and Buddhist Monk Like Hip Kids that make no noise and call the cops on me every time I watch a movie....THIS IS WHY I can't wait to buy a house.

Not just a house....LAND with a house in the MIDDLE. No other humans within 100 feet, at least. I will have a fence...a big, strong fence....and a dog...a very big, angry dog that patrolls the DMZ b/t the fence and the house.

And I will watch movies...no, I will EXPERIENCE movies at top-level volume at whatever time I want to.

Excuse me...I have to go touch myself now.
