"Last Words"...

Obviously use your best judgement for whether or not to proceed. While a bit on the morbid side, I find stuff like this fascinating and certainly not just Rotten.com-esque shock material.

My aunt narrowly missed being on the ValuJet that went down in Florida due to a ticketing error on the part of the airline. Would you believe that this same aunt of mine was in the air from Boston to Chicago on the morning of 9/11 (when all they knew early on was that planes with enough fuel to get halfway cross country might also be targeted)? Boggles the mind.

I don't hear any sound coming from the website.

If sound is available for a particular incident, it's on the far left hand column--"ATC" for air traffic control perspective, "CVR" for cockpit voice recorder perspective. I believe they are all MP3s. Worked fine for me just now in Firefox/Quicktime. Each of them has a CVR transcript at least.

I was half-expecting it to be streamed w/ the same pages as the transcripts.

October 2, 1990
Off Pasamayo, Peru
Aeroperu, Flight 603
Boeing B-757-200
N52AW

The aircraft crashed into the ocean 28 minutes after taking off from Lima, Peru. Pieces of adhesive tape were found covering the static ports, placed there by personnel during aircraft maintenance and cleaning, causing the malfunction of the airspeed indicators and altimeters. The crew was not able to correctly determine their altitude and airspeed and with no ground reference over water and at night, crashed into the ocean. An employee did not remove the adhesive tape from the static ports, nor was it detected by any number of people, including the captain, during the preflight inspection. All 70 aboard were killed.

The pilots are cussing the mantinance people because they know that they did something to the aircraft. Sad reading.

Reminds me of the second last episode of the first season of "Dead Like Me". The crew is filing an as* load of reports in order of last words. Sad how you really can file them under a specific theme.
