More than 20 people were killed and 100 injured in a horrific shooting near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas Sunday night, police said.

The "nonstop gunfire," according to one witness, sent bystanders outside the resort on the Vegas strip ducking for cover and fleeing for their lives.

Videos filmed by onlookers gave a window into the chaos that ensued, with some thinking that fireworks were going off. The final night of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival was taking place across the street from Mandalay Bay when the shooting took place and concertgoers were caught off-guard.

In the wake of the shooting, the Las Vegas Police Department said that "one suspect is down" and they did not believe there were any more shooters.

A spokesperson for the University Medical Center in Las Vegas earlier told ABC News that it received 26 patients; two victims died and 12 people were listed in critical condition.

"We were just at the concert there, and Jason Aldean was playing," one of the concertgoers, named Mike Cronk, 48, a retired teacher, told ABC News. "Kinda sounded like some fireworks going off. I think there was the first kinda volley, and then all of the sudden second volley. My buddy's like 'I just got hit, ya know.' He got hit three times. Then people started diving for the ground. And it just continued."

"It was pretty much chaotic," Cronk continued. "Lots of people got hit. ...It took a while to get him out. We had to get him over the fence and hiding under the stage for a while, ya know, to be safe. And finally we had to move him because he had three chest wounds."

Mike said his group were finally able to track down an ambulance "and basically the one guy ended up dying in my arms because he was bleeding," he said. "And my buddy got in there. We got three more people in the ambulance. ... But I just got a message from my buddy -- and he's going to be okay."

They showed some phone footage on CNN and it sounded to me like the shooter had a fully automatic firearm and reloaded several times as the rapid shooting would pause then start up again and the large number of injured people as well as 20 dead at the time of this post seems to support that hypothesis.

I expect the usual arguments for and against 2A to pop up out of the woodwork. However, there are civilians who shouldn't have to expect to be shot at who were watching a concert injured, or just in shock, or who have been murdered.

Being of a sarcastic mind one boggles at what the orange in chief might tweet out in response to this travesty.

CNN states that "Gunman fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel". I remember some witness interviewed by a reporter saying they heard something like glass breaking before they started hearing gunshots.
The shooter is also being reported as being local to the Las Vegas area.

After seeing the cell phone video again and hearing the gunshots it definitely was a fully automatic weapon imho.

If only good guy with a gun, just another anecdotal story, guns don't kill people, unfortunately there's just nothing we can do, it's too early to talk about it, etc. etc.. Yawn. These shootings are boooring.

It's mind boggling one guy can do so much damage so quickly.

I can't imagine the fear and confusion in that crowd. It must have gone from peaceful enjoyment to total carnage in seconds!

Sad. I am going to quit watching the news in the mornings, nothing but depressing stories.

To be honest I didn't count how many shots there were in the clip but I'd imagine that he was using drums on an AR style rifle. The NRA can't put lipstick on this pig.
