i've noticed THe majority party usually will not put a bill up for vote unless they have the votes lined up.

the last bill defeated that i could remember was the Stimulus package. and that was a fluke since it was rushed, and noone bothered to count the votes b4 it was put up.

Any others this century?

One thing for sure, even if the health care bill passes the House today, its still has to go back to the Senate where the fight will erupt again.

But even if the health care bill passes to both houses of the legislative branch, and receives the Presidents signature, the down side is that its riddled with so many compromises and is not real health care reform.

On the bright side, it will discredit the health care reform opposition who advocate the sky will immediately fall down, and when it does not, Obama and everyone else can move to other pressing issues facing this country.

Washington gridlock has got to stop or the USA is doomed.

Does it still not really do anything for reducing costs, but still increases our taxes?

No, they're supposed to be splitting the vote up.

When the House passes the Senate version it can go straight to the President for signature.

After Obama signs it, the Senate can take up the (separate) reconcilliation bill from the House with their 'fixes'.

Supposedly, the Senate Parlimentarian has already unofficially 'OK'd' the rec bill and Reid has enough pledges from Dem senators to assure the rec bill's passage.

Looks like a slam-dunk to me.

The Senate parlimentarian hasnt ok'ed anything, even unofficially. Theres a very good chance atleast one part of the House reconciliation bill will get tossed by the Senate Parlimentarin, which would require a redo in the House.

We will have Healthcare reform tonight, but it will be the Senates version, and I could easily see the Senate screwing over the House Dems.

I don't know why they wouldn't agree with at least that part of house rec bill that:

1. Frontloads benefits, and backloads taxes. In the Senate version, taxes strated now, and benefits were pushed back. Gawd, that would be horrible for Dem re-election efforts this Nov and Obama's in 2012.

2. Student loan provision. That's stuffed in their just to make the finances/deficit estimates look better. I don't why they'd strip that out.

The Dems have 59 votes in the Senate, the parts that good for Dems should easily pass. IDK what's all in the rec bill, wouldn't surprise me if the Senate bounced some of it back, but I belive there will be a recon bill, and soon.
