Hello!

Here are the specs for my new computer. It'll be used as a home CAD computer (SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.) and watching films.

Please give me any final suggestions and offers. Try to be as objective as possible.

Sorry, it is in CAN Dollars. (I sure hope so!).

I've been told that there is no point in getting 800RAM if I don't plan to overclock. Is this accurate?

Someone just told me that I don't need the 7900GT and could settle with 7900GS for my CAD purposes. Is this accurate?

yeah the 7900GS is just as good as the 7900 GT dont let the specs and higher price fool you

In Particular, I've chosen "BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC nVidia GeForce 7900GS Chipset (525MHz) 256MB GDDR3 (1320MHz) PCI-Express Graphics Card 20 Pixel Shader Processor SLI-Ready".

Gigabyte's 7900 series have Zalman VF-700's stock as seen HERE; I definitely go that route.

If you don't plan on overclocking you can go with the cheaper Zalman CNPS-9500AT. They both use PWM fans so the 9500 will be just as if not quieter then the 9700.

For the PSU I suggest Seasonic, the 330 or 380 watt S12 would be a good match.

Lastly I would go with Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, or Geil for the RAM.

1. I'm interested in the Gigabyte 7900 card that you suggested, but I don't live in the US. Is there a Canadian store that sells the same model?

2. Also, I've changed my RAM to "Kingston ValueRAM DDR2-667 2GB Kit". Is this fine?

3. Lastly, Don't I need at least 450W to run a card like the 9000 series?

Many times a quality 380 W PSU will be much more stable and reliable than a 600W no-name brand.

1. I would think so. Just search around and see if you can find it, I'm not too familiar with all of the Canadian stores.

3. No, not at all. Your max power draw will be well under 200-250 watts under load. There is no reason to go with anything more then a quality 400 watt PSU and Seasonic is one of the best there is.
