When I lived on the east coast, there always seemed to be Entenmann's baked goods in the bakery section. For some reason, maybe it's because I try to stay away from empty carbs, but at least in the NW, they don't seem to be available.

As the last of the Entenmann brothers dies, nostalgia for the brand's baked goods remains strong | Salon.com

He also was on the forefront of developing alternate nuclear energy.

I remember their baked products, much better than alot of Little Debbie's or what's that other shop from Michigan, Saunder's.

I like their products.
I read a different article the other day about his death.
At the end if it, one of his relatives, grandson I think, said that Charles Entenmann was not a dessert guy and didn't have a sweet tooth.
Pretty funny.

RIP

The factory was walking distance from my High School.
Entenmann's chocolate covered donuts and their raspberry danish were my jam back in the day.

As an adult, I stopped eating crap like that sort of stuff but occasionally I would try some at parties or get togethers.
Few years back it started to hit me that they used a lot of coconut in their pastries.
Nowadays whenever I think about them,, I think coconut and I think about the time I (age 18) got badges flashed at me when I tried to race a car in front of the factory filled with off duty cops that were leaving the nearby precinct at 1 am.

Comparing Entenmann's to Little Debbie is like comparing a Rolls to a Yugo. They are top tier for supermarket style baked goods-nowhere as near as good as a decent independent bakery but very enjoyable. Haven't had them in years but fond memories. BTW I just checked, they are still available at my local supermarket.

As a kid i used to bike to the grocery store to buy a soda and tin of Entenmann's cinnamon buns and mow the whole thing in the parking lot.

I would guess there's not much difference between any of those brands with regards to quality these days. And most of the people saying one is gross compared to another is most likely down to nostalgia of you growing up with it and not because its much better.

And uh...alternative energy, I guess that's one way to talk about the stuff he seemed into.

Yeah I'm a bit confused by this thread myself. Kroger often has Entenmann's donuts on sale, and I've occasionally bought them (as recently as last fall). They're passable for a packaged donut, but not very good. IIRC they have some other packaged baked goods (Danishes?) that are somewhat better?

It's worth keeping in mind that Kroger also carries boxed Krispy Kreme, and they aren't nearly as good as the fresh ones from the Krispy Kreme store. :p

A lot of times, these popular "restaurant" brands sold in grocers are just a branding deal. I don't know about KKD in particular, but oftentimes some large food conglomerate is producing the store good and slapping the name brand on it. So besides the fact that highly processed foods can't be identical with a restaurant day to day product, it can be an entirely different recipe and supply chain.

I get Krispy Kreme donuts a couple times a year, and they blow packaged donuts out of the water. Unfortunately a dozen now costs about $16, but I can wait for a coupon or promotional offer.

When I was young life was a joyous wonder to me, so many different and new experiences to wonder about leaving nostalgia up the ass, but then I ran into people like you who straightened me right out. No more of that bull shit for me. It was all a bunch of naive stupidity. I'm so much older ans wiser now, not to mention miserable. Hope you are too.

Only had the Danishes and coffee cake. For factory made baked goods they were quite decent.
Also, just my way of letting you all know, that there is still hope out there. ITER isn't it though.
