Besides re electing OB1, we have much more to celebrate.

Rep. Allen West "LOST" his re election bid.

Elizabeth Warren won a senate seat.

Rep. Todd Akin LOST his bid.

Minnesota rejected a state amendment to ban same sex marriage.

Maine voted to legalize same-sex marriage. A first for ballot voting on this issue. Huge win!
Anti same sex marriage organizations can NO LONGER claim they always win when SS marriage is put on the ballot. Those days have finally and forever come to an end.

(Just a few off the top of me head :D )

Ops... almost forgot maybe the most important.
President Obama will no doubt get to pick at least one maybe two supreme court justices.
And THAT was the massive pie in the sky win for progressives.
And every right wing republican fully realizes that, this morning.
For many republicans, who picks that next high court judge was the entire ballgame.
THAT is what this election was really all about.

I am glad Obama won again. That way the following Republican will have someone to blame for 8 years. I only wish the dems had taken the House to help drive that point home. With all three sectors in control that they CAN control, I want America to see how truly incompetent & evil they really are.

There's a chance that he picks four more. (He already selected 2 during this current term.) Scalia and Kennedy might try to hang on until after his term, but that would put them both into their 80s. (They're both 76years +, and were both selected by Reagan.) There are also the two Clinton SC Justices: Ginsberg (79 yrs 7 mo.) and Breyer (74 yrs).

While I wish all the best in health. But in that age group, the chances of being diagnosed with something is increasing. I'm sure they receive the very best health care possible in this country, but would one really want to continue serving while undergoing treatment for, say, a cancer caught in the early stages?

And locally... But of national interest:

> iOwa, republican bigot and hate monger Bob Vander Plaats, and his group FAILED to remove the one Iowa Supreme Court justice up for retention. Justice David Wiggins was one of the justices that unanimously ruled in favor of same sex marriage in iOwa.
In 2010, three of the same justices were remove, not retained, by revenge efforts from Vander Plaats.
Caught off guard, justices and iOwans were determined not to let Vander Plaats succeed in future attempts to remove justices.
Vander Plaats revenge attempt to remove Justice Wiggins failed last night.

> iOwa democrats held control of the iOwa senate.
The republican controlled house has tried and tried to pass anti same sex initiatives in iOwa. A one seat democrat advantage in the iOwa senate kept the republican wolves at bay.
The iOwa house republicans actually have tried to pass laws allowing any iOwa business to legally refuse to do business with anyone they perceived to be gay, on religious grounds. Such nonsense was stopped in its tracks by that one democrat senate advantage.
The iOwa senate will remain in democrat control.

Romney got his clock cleaned yesterday.

Of the 8 real battlegrounds (North Carolina is a battleground in same way Pennsylvania and Michigan, except Obama was actually competitive in North Carolina).

Romney went 0 / 8 in states that were long ago identified as true swing states.

Plus Democrats actually picked up seats in Senate, and House home court advantage was just too much (I think Chuck Todd said they picked up 9 seats, when they needed 25 to retake House).

Also that kook Joe Walsh went down. Made way for a real patriot Tammy Duckworth. Truely a great day!

That may be the only way to get the R's back into control. IF the dems had both the executive and both branches of legislative under their belts, they wouldn't have anyone left to blame. Oh wait....

Romney appears to be losing Colorado 51% - 47%, a surprisingly large gap given that polling seemed to indicate a true toss up and I think it should even have a slight Republican lean.

Obama could have lost Florida, Virginia, and Ohio, but with Colorado, he still gets to 271.

Obama campaigned stomped on Romney campaign...

(and African American turnout percentage was same as 2008. Obama got boost from Latinos and Youth)

And most importantly atleast 2 more years of gridlock. I was very happy on the no vote in minnesota also. I was also happy that mourdock and Akin lost. The more extreme social conservatives who lose the better.

They'll always have HIM :p

I wouldn't mind so much except Obama will select SCOTUS members who will make the Constitution into a balloon animal to suit their agenda.

Chuck Todd said exit polling say vast majority of Americans want tax increases as part of grand bargain on deficit.

Hopefully rational Republicans who actually want their party to still exist a few years down the road see that and marginalize wingnuts in House and come to compromise with Obama.

Then tax EVERYBODY, everyone needs to have skin in the game. Im pretty sure those voters have the belief of 'I'm not rich, therefore I'll escape the tax axe' I guarantee that 'vast majority' will shrink to a minority when they see their own taxes raised.

Mitt could have won if he had not joined the crazies, tried to out perform them, during the primaries.
I wonder if he will ever realize that?
I wonder if the republican party will ever come to realize that?
Obviously Fox News and Rush will forever refuse to realize that.
The memo from Fox: they have to learn-to, act-like, they are pro Hispanic.
A big however... they however are missing the point.
Until they open up and admit gays exist, women want to control their own reproductive rights, and that the enemy has never been the gays... the Blacks... the Hispanics... nor the working women... Until Fox and their republicans accept that reality, republicans are truly forever doomed.
Memo to Fox: America has changed.
You either face that, or continue to live in some pretend fantasy land.
And you can never win elections in fantasy land.
Trust me... you can't. And won't.

I (for one) was just happy that Linda McMahon was once again unable to buy herself a Senate seat with 70 million bucks worth of negative campaign ads. Perhaps Democracy still works after all.

Healthcare and allowing gays to serve openly are TRULY THE EVILS! Destroying the world economy and deregulating so that BP can poison the gulf with oil.. the HOLY!!!

Given that so many Dem officeholders were running and hiding from Obama earlier this year, he appears to have had fairly substantial coattails-while Romney had none at all.

Personally I extremely happy WWE moneybags Linda McMahon got absolutely stomped in CT-after spending almost $100 million out of her own pocket and outspending Chris Murphy 4 to 1. She ran a very slick Madison Avenue type campaign directed towards suburban woman and it had looked like it would work.

On the negative side it looks like Michele Bachmann survived.

Too bad they never had that in 2008. They had 59 for a few weeks/months before one member died. Republican recordbreaking fillibustering and having to try to coerce someone they kicked out of the party to cooperate(he wouldn't-Lieberman), they were forced to use the republican plan for healthcare, which was still opposed almost completely.

Soaking the poor will forever be a republican ideal. They are barely surviving, and that is because of the widening gap between the rich and the poor. Stop shipping jobs to China and stop allowing the rich to craft rules that benefit only themselves.. then maybe we will have less poor and they will pay taxes.

Hey, Maryland share Maine's first at the ballot box distinction on this issue!

Elizabeth Warren's election is not a good thing. I heard her victory speech where she basically rejected the notion of any cuts to SS or Medicare. It was horrifying.

And Jesse Jackson Jr won from the Mayo clinic. That might be a first though I wouldn't bet money on it knowing politicians and how stupid their constituents are.

A delicious victory (McMahon losing). Also, looks like the Koch brothers money back fired on them by pushing unelectables through the primaries, destroying perfectly good chances for the Republicans to retake the Senate majority.
