My sister is getting married next Friday. I was supposed to rent a suit, and went to men's warehouse today. Apparently, they only sell suits. I don't really want to spend $300 on something I'll never wear again. Any way to hack it up? Or are there places that rent suits?

Most tuxedo rental places also have traditional suits...just not many.

Every man needs a suit, and a nice one at that...you're never going to another wedding?

I'm losing weight. So not anytime soon where it'll be too big on me. The same thing happened when I bought a suit two years ago. I spent $300 on the thing, and now it's huge on me - just absolutely doesn't fit, and no chance in hell of it ever fitting.

And I absolutely *despise* suits or any formal wear.

Renting a suit will probably set you back over $100 anyway, so you might as well just buy a suit. Go to JC Penny and get the cheapest jacket they have, throw in some generic dress black pants and you're set.

I rented a suit from Men's Warehouse back in July for a wedding on August 1st. They do in fact rent them. It cost me $140 something for shoes and all. You can buy an nice inexpensive suit for $150 but you have to buy shoes and a tie, probably spend $225 total.

I was a groomsman so we all had to look the same or I would have worn the one in my closet from my wedding. I bought it at JC Penny on the cheap.

you can get setup pretty fast at a goodwill store. Just make sure your pants/suit match.

Also - Mens Warehouse does rent suits, not sure if yours is different or something or if it's too late for them to have one ready for you.

Sigh. Suits are a social obligation. Kinda like not scratching your balls in public or holding the door for your grandma. You don't wear a suit for yourself, unless you like clothes, you wear a suit to comply with society's and your sister's expectations.

Learn to play the game. Being proud of your disdain for 'formal' clothes is rather like taking pride in your ability to fart on command. You don't have to change the way you think, you just have to act and look civilized for the duration of the wedding.

this one time, when I was super broke and desperate, I bought a suit off the rack, wore it to a wedding, and then returned it the next day
