Hi everyone, i'm off to the US tomorrow and as some of you know i've ordered a PC as everything is so much cheaping than in the UK.

I've bought a 1.8a and an Epox 4G4A in the hope of overclocking. I've also bought 8 (probably won't even use 6) 30cmf 80mm case fans for cooling and some ASIII to go on the CPU.

I was just wondering if you had any advice for removing the thermal pad and putting on the AS, is it easy? And also any jumper I would want to remove on the 4G4A for oc'ing?

Thanks for all your help I wouldn't know what I was doing without the help of you guys on these boards you've been really helpful to me :)

And oh yeah is there any special foods I should try also while i'm in the US, what do you recommend that I won't find in the UK? :D:D:D

Thanks a lot everyone :) Mark

advice for removing the thermal pad and putting on the AS, is it easy?
First try to peel off the thermal pad by scraping the edge a bit and then lifting the rest off. You will probably still have a little bit of the wax or sticky off on the heatsink. Get an old clean (read: not used) sock or have you as long as its clean and doesn't leave visible particles behind, although perhaps lens cleaning cloth is best. Get some 91% or greater isopropyl alcohol and put it on the cloth and rub away at the sticky stuff. You might have to scrape a bit with your fingernail/cloth but have patience. Others recommend goo gone/goo off so you might try that if you have some lying around the house. If you really want it ALL off, then you will have to lap the bottom of the heatsink into a mirrorlike shine.

The rubbing off of the sticky stuff was the hardest part for me, after that it's smooth sailing. Just take a old credit card and dab a light layer (a "haze" I guess) of AS3 on the heatspreader part of the chip and rub a bit onto the heatsink as well. Don't worry if you get a little bit in the hole but try not too. Put the chip into the socket, put heatsink in, and clamp on both the levers. Done.

And also any jumper I would want to remove on the 4G4A for oc'ing?
There is a jumper that you have to remove to get FSBs of 133+ and although I can't recall the number (and I don't want to go dig in my manual ;)) it's in the manual or you can go dig into the huge "EPoX 4G4A looks promising" thread in the motherboards forum here.

Also, do be startled if the temps seem a bit high at first. My 1.6A was running a bit hot for a while but after a running Prime95 for a couple of hours over a period of 3 days, the temps dropped nicely. I guess the AS3 particles have to settle down a bit :).

Hope this helped ~MistaEng

Thanks guys thats a real help :)

I've found out that the jumper to remove is JP1 right? I've not got my hands on the mb yet but i'll be able to find it using the manual i'm sure.

Thanks for the help :) Mark
