Last Ford Taurus rolls off assembly line

I drove this car as a rental to vegas.. god it was awful. It only had like 5000 miles, but on the freeway the windshield wiper hummed like crazy. Also it was not very economical.. I only got about 20-23 mpg on the highway! and this was the 4 cylinders!

you young pups weren't around when it was first introduced in 1986. it revolutionized the family sedan, which were boxes on wheels. It was the best selling car in the US from 1992-1996, and they only sold over 7 million of them in the 21 years it was built.

Ford screwed up letting the car fade to oblivion by not updating it to keep pace.

When it was introduced it was a great car.
Comparable in quality and reliability and gas mileage to the best Japanese cars.
But the Japanese cars improved and the Tauras didn't.
It should have been put out of its misery a few years ago, but repeat buyers kept it around for far too long.
Bye, Bye Taurus.

My dad has had a Taurus as a company car from the first generation to the very last. For an sedan, it's pretty decent. It served it's purpose well. In Tauruses, my dad has probably done close to 2 million kilometers. Comfortable, reliable...it's a good car.

I drove several of them in the early 90's. Some of the worse handling, worse sound insulated, worse quality vehicles I ever had the 'honor' to drive. One was my boss'es car w/ about 20,000 miles on it. It was not treated poorly, but that thing felt like the wheels were going to fall off. Several things were already broken (no intermittant wipers, auto door locks, etc) and the thing was always in the shop. Bah. Good riddance to a poor vehicle...

my 98 taurus was great, it performed exactly what it was meant to do. I can see how some people would dislike it because its not ricey enough.

i've owned 2 taurus to date...i loved them both and were great cars for a college guy.
i learned a ton fixing them. had a ton of fun in them. sad to see them go 🙁
