David,
From what I read, the A+ exam is supposed require you to demonstrate the skills of a hardware technician after 6 months on the job. It's not supposed to impress computer engineers. I think the average person with no computer science background or degree in the field and who considers himself "technically minded" will still have to work to pass this test. I'm sure the engineers at Daimler Chrysler aren't too impressed with local auto mechanics - but people like me still have to pay for them and appreciate their service

.
All in all, I found the test to be easier than I expected, but difficult enough to serve the purpose. It certainly doesn't indicate a pioneer in the field, but it's still tough enough to weed out the 10th grade English teacher who is a "computer whiz" because he uses MS Office and built his own computer.
It was perfect for a person like me, who has the skills but not the evidence of those skills. It will help me get my foot in the door (which is all I need), when in the past my resume would be ignored because the little Human Resources was tossing out the ones that didn't show a certification.
