Last day at work.. sob.. sob..

Today is the last day of my internship. I already graduated in May, and after today, I will be unemployed. Interns are classified as temporary workers, and according to someone here (though not confirmed), I don't qualify for unemployment.

I don't know about Texas, but in California you can get unemployment from a temp job even if it's from a temp agency. The only requirement is that you check in with the temp agency for more work and if they have nothing for you, you can collect unemployment.

Should I format my computer?
If it's got anything sensative? probubly. Just be sure to use a disk wiping utility afterwords. 🙂

Disk wiping utility? Explain with examples please.

it wipes the drive by filling it with 0's then with 1's then with 0's .....

dont know of any off hand

Just get the utility from whoever made the HD... it should tell you how to low-level format it. It'll take a while though if you have a big HD.

Check the HDD manufacturer's website for utilities. I know Maxtor/WD have utilities that will write all-0 to disk.

Only format / clean your computer off if there are no files that would be of use to the place you're working. If there are, you should first move them somewhere else, give them to a co-worker, etc.

I just say this from experience as I was brought in to recover a bunch of deleted files from an ex-employee's computer that she had deleted, and I have a feeling that the recovered items report is going to be used against her for deleting a bunch of company documents.

Eraser = great disk wiping utility. you get to choose from four levels of security and it works pretty fast--best of all, its free, small and takes up very little memory. go to download.com and search "eraser", i think version 5.5x is the most recent.
