This is reminder repost of this deal that is soon expiring.

The Panasonic MiniDV PV-DV400 Camcorder can still be found in stock at some dealers, use pricegrabber to get the low price (around $600), and the the rebate off panasonic.com and you get a sweet MiniDV camcorder for under $500.

CAUTION: Make sure you call these New York electorincs dealers to confirm they have them in stock. The first two cheapest companies on PriceGrabber, Deals on Digital and Digital E-Tailer are the same company, if you just want to buy the camcorder "They don't have it in stock" but if you buy an overpriced battery or tape pack in addition to the camera, magically "they have stock."

I decided to avoid them all together and go with another NY company, Centore that had it in stock and didn't require me to buy any accessories. Most of these electronics dealers have bad ratings on resellerratings.com, but I took the chance anyways.

My total is $598 - $100 rebate = $498 for the DV400 MiniDV camera.

You can also check some companies that aren't on pricegrabber by using CNET or mysimmon to find the low price. If anyone is successful with buying this from APlusDigital.com, let me know. They seem to have the lowest price, but based on their website, I didn't take a chance. Another place is XtremeShopper.com, but their setup also seems fishy.

Of course, you will need a battery pack (the one included only has 30min of running time) and some MiniDV tapes (not included with Camcorder), but it's still a good price for this High Quality video setup, which comes with the ability to take snapshots on an included 8mb MultiMedia card.

The rebate expired June 30th, so act fast.

UPDATE- Looks like Companies now have new stock

I got the Panasonic DV100 (cheapest model) from www.amdv.com for $497 delivered. After the $100 rebate, that's $397. I was tired of buying cameras with features I end up never using. So base model is fine for my needs.

It is a great camera. Beats the heck out of my old VHS-C in terms of quality. With the money I saved I got the extra battery and a bunch of tapes. Also got the Sony DA2 box to convert some old VHS to DV.

AMDV.com did try to give me the hard sell on the tapes and batteries. I told them I this is a second camera and I already have all the accessories and he shut up pretty quickly.

One other thing...make sure they aren't selling "greymarket" cameras. These are imports that are not covered by USA warranty. AMDV.com makes it clear they don't deal in greymarket and all products have full USA warranties.

That's right, the DV100, 200, 400, 600, and 800 all have the $100 rebate.

It's seen said that you need to buy the Cam WITH another battery together! I don't know if you can buy the Cam and go some place else to get the battery cheaper?

From how I understand the rebate terms, you have to buy the battery and camera at the same place. They each require the original UPC, so I was thinking you could just send all the rebates together, but then noticed they all go to different places. They also state only one rebate per person/household/etc., but does that mean the same rebate multiple times or more than one rebate?

I will try and call tomorrow...

There are some 80 min sp tapes out there.

Don't forget to get a UV filter for your camcorder also. It's easier to replace a $15 filter than a several hundred dollar lens.

I lucked out and found a "large quantity" of miniDV tapes locally for $2 each. I now have a lifetime supply of tapes :D

It's not necessary, if you don't want it, don't get it.

The filter is an added lens that screws on in front of the camcorder lens. It just blocks the uv rays to give you clearer pics. But the important thing is that it protects the camcorder lens from being accidentally scratched.

I just found out that all the PV DVx00 (x=1,2,4,6,8) models are only 460,000 pixel where as PV DVx01 models are 680,000 pixels which is better more clear pixels in term of digital? Isn't it like 480 X 640 per/frame? Which is OK but the other is not that clear? Do anyone know if Panasonic has $100 rebate for the better model when this rebated expire?

the more pixels a camera has the more information the CCD caputures which means better picture quality and better in low light conditions (I'm not positive on the last one). thats why 3 chip cameras have such superior picture quality more chips + more acruate colors. also does anyone know if this camera takes analog in and gives a DV stream out? my sony Digital 8 does but I was to move out of digital 8

Some of the DVx00 models do. I think maybe the 700 and up.

Anyone has any comparison of the Panasonic PV-DV series versus the Sony TRV series? I know the Sony is Digital8 instead of true digital, will that make a lot of difference ? Most of the reviews I read about the Sony has been pretty positive.

Are you sure you got the right one? The 3-hour battery is CGR-D16 A/1B and I couldn't find that on the site you provided.

Warning, CENTORE said it was in stock, and now they don't have any.

Do not buy from them.
