Opticals and other hard-drives are covered. Use for computer: HTPC, HDTV, multi-tasking, encoding, and good old browsing. I may update the videocard later, but since there will be NO GAMING, the 6600GT should have all the features I need at a good price for any monitor less than the apple 30 inch. I plan on waiting till february to see if the 20-24 inch LCDs will come down in price and will be buying my monitor then.

The main dilemma is still between the Opteron 170, which would cost about 70 dollars more, or the X2 3800+
People swear the opteron will overclock better because it runs at a lower voltage, but is the chance worth $80?? I don't know. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks a million!

For a HTPC display there are 1920x1080p 37" LCD panels in the $1500 range

The Opteron 170 is even more worthy because the X2 3800 only has 512k L2 per core.

What sort of sound are you going to be using? If you have a real receiver you should get a Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect card. I'd deal with onboard audio until this is released.

Thanks, you're right, I've heard a lot about that bluegears. Any idea of price on it? Well, the x2 vs opteron issue is still pending. I'm going to try to decide tonight though.
